When asked about what Two Birds’ style of projects or what motivates us when we’re building all of our projects, the answer is Modern Rustic, but even then, it can be tricky to define what Modern Rustic actually is.
First we’ve got to break down the term Modern Rustic starting with the definition of Modern.
the word modern originates from the definition of:
of, relating to, or characteristic of the present or the immediate past (2 Birds has been supplying furniture and products to home designers building brand-new homes as part of an addition to their packages and have added our furniture to existing homes built back in recent models.)
of, relating to, or characteristic of a period extending from a relevant remote past to the present time.
involving recent techniques, methods, or ideas
of, relating to, or having the characteristics of the present or most recent period of development of a language
Now adding in the element of rustic:
of, relating to, or suitable for the country (Based on our customer base and originating from Southern Alberta we’ve used historic pieces from properties we’ve procured as far back as the 1940’s)
made of the rough limbs of trees (like the lumber we procure from out barn tear downs)
lacking in social graces or polish (live edges on shelving units, barn door characteristics)
Combine those two elements together and you get exactly what our goal is everyday when we come into work and we start a new project or are finalizing someone’s order.
Modern Rustic has become extremely popular in home décor and it’s something we’re always looking at how Two Birds can up their game when designing our products or is there something out there inspirational that we see in our procurement that we can bring back to life for you the customer. In the most common definition we can give you on Modern Rustic is simply this… “Using clean lines when we work with our wood with a rustic feel in our end result.”
As we’ve officially opened our Kelowna location hopefully this article will help serve as a quick reminder of what Modern Rustic actually is and how it works and how your home could benefit from something that can liven up your home from something petite or tantalizing to help make your furniture “pop” in your residence.
